Using mathematical models to predict optimum drug and vaccine doses for therapeutic tuberculosis (TB) vaccine trials.

Abstract

Monotherapy and misuse of drugs used to treat TB have led to resistance. The use of vaccines in conjunction with TB drugs may improve treatment of drug resistant TB. There is currently no systematic way for selection of the optimum drug/vaccine dose for TB treatment. The proposed project will help to identify optimum drug and vaccine doses using mathematical modelling to simultaneously explore drug and vaccine impact on mycobacterial growth.  Mathematical models will be created and calibrated to existing mouse data generated by the Fletcher group. Additional mouse and modeling data will be generated by the student during this project.
